3.How to Join

  1. Select Ranked Match on Home
  2. Choose 4-player or 1v1 and start
  3. The game starts automatically once enough players join (there is no lobby)

Who can join

You can join once you've finished one game of that format (4-player or 1v1) in any mode, including Solo Play, Practice and rooms (a 2-player room counts as 1v1, a room with 3 or more players as 4-player). Guests can join too.

While you wait

Keep the page open while you wait. Even if you're on another tab, we'll let you know when a match is found with a sound, the tab title and a browser notification (if you allow it). If no match is found within 10 minutes, the search ends.

4.How Matchmaking Works

  • •We look for players with a similar rating first, and widen the range the longer you wait
  • •Players who have been waiting longest are matched first
  • •When few players are online, you'll be matched regardless of rating after a while

5.How Ratings Work

  • •Ratings use OpenSkill. Everyone starts at 1500
  • •In 4-player games your rating follows your finishing place by score (on a tie, whoever reached that score first ranks higher)
  • •Beating stronger players raises your rating more, and losing to weaker players lowers it more
  • •Your rating moves a lot in your first games and settles as you play more
  • •To appear on the leaderboard you need at least 3 games in that format

6.Rules During a Game

  • •You can't leave or abandon a game once it starts. Please play to the end
  • •If you close the page or lose your connection, auto-play takes over until you return (initial placement, rolling, the robber, discarding, ending your turn and declining trade offers; it never builds, proposes trades or uses development cards). Come back and you can keep playing
  • •In 1v1, if you stay away from the game screen too long, you lose regardless of the score (coming back in time cancels this)
  • •If every player leaves the screen or disconnects, the result is decided by the current scores (until initial placement is over, the game is called off instead and ratings don't change)
  • •Ranked games can't be spectated

7.FAQ

Will I ever play against AI?

No. Ranked Match is players only, and empty seats are never filled with AI. If you want rated games against AI opponents, try Solo Play.

How does it relate to my Solo Play rating?

They're separate. Ranked Match 4-player, Ranked Match 1v1, Solo Play 4-player and Solo Play 1v1 each have their own rating.

What if I want to stop mid-game?

You can't leave or abandon. If you close the page, auto-play continues and the result is decided by the final scores. In 1v1 you lose if you don't come back. Start a game when you have time to finish it.

What if I lose my connection?

Open the game again with the same account to pick up where you left off. Auto-play covers you while you're away. In 1v1, staying away too long counts as a loss, so come back quickly.
